Detailed Programme (pdf - 713 kB)
The International Technical Papers Committee has invited the submission of more than 120 papers from authors throughout the world. The papers for both platform and poster presentation, cover a wide range of subjects. The technical sessions will run Tuesday - Friday in two or three parallel sessions, except on the Environment Day, which will be a plenary session. Posters will remain on display throughout the Congress for delegates to view at their leisure and the authors will be available to discuss their work during the coffee and lunch breaks on Wednesday.
The theme of the Environment Day will be "GAPS". There are GAPS between theory and practice, regulations and compliance, controls and actual impacts. There are also gaps in understanding between professions, for example between biologists and engineers, between regulators and practitioners. The focus of the papers presented and the discussions will be on identifying the gaps by reference to specific examples and discussing how those gaps may be filled. A keynote paper by A. Jensen of the Danish Hydraulic Institute entitled: "Balanced objectives and requirements in dredging projects" will set the scene for the day. The following presentations by selected international speakers will further elaborate on the main points of the keynote paper. For the panel discussion we will think about what parameters in a dredging project we select for control and how we set target values for contaminants, how we go about setting a meaningful and practical monitoring programme and more generally, how we manage dredged material in a more holistic way. The discussion will finish with an opportunity to take a fresh look at the way we think about the environment. The intention is to conclude the day with a declaration. The Environment Day will be sponsored by CEDA/EADA/WEDA and PIANC.
The International Association of Dredging Companies 2004 Award for an original contribution to the literature on dredging will be presented at WODCON XVII. This award, which is intended to stimulate the promotion of new ideas and encourage younger men and women working in the dredging industry and related fields, will be presented for the best paper by an author under 35 years of age.
All papers, platform or poster, will be peer reviewed and published in the Congress Proceedings on a CD-ROM. A hard copy Abstract book will also be produced. Both publications will be distributed to all registered delegates at the start of the Congress. Additional copies will be available at extra cost (please refer to the Congress registration form).
