Date and venue
WODCON XVII will be held from 27 September to 1 October 2004 at CCH - Congress Centre Hamburg, Am Dammtor 13 (http://www.cch.de). The CCH is situated in the heart of the city in a beautiful parkland setting, next to the "Hamburg-Dammtor" InterCity train station.
Language
The sessions will be conducted in English. No simultaneous translation facilities will be available.
Catering
Tea and coffee will be served during the breaks between sessions. Lunch will be provided to registered delegates during the breaks between morning and afternoon sessions.
Visas
Participants should check with their local travel agent whether they need a visa for travelling to Germany. If a visa is required, participants are advised to apply to the nearest German Embassy or Consulate at least 2 months before the intended date of travel.
Letter of invitation
On request, the organizers will be pleased to send a personal invitation to prospective participants for the Congress. Such invitations can only be issued for the purpose of assisting participants to raise travel funds or obtain visas. No financial commitment on the part of the organizers is implied. Please indicate on the Congress registration form if you wish to receive a letter of invitation.
Liability and insurance
Registration fees do not include insurance of any kind. It is strongly recommended that when registering for the Congress and the Post congress tour and booking their travel arrangements, intending participants should arrange personal insurance cover for the following:
- loss of registration and tour fees, deposits, hotel costs and air fares, through cancellation of the Congress for Force Majeure or any other reason;
- failure to utilise pre-booked arrangements due to airline delays for Force Majeure or any other reason;
- medical expenses and loss or damage to personal property.
Neither the organizers (WODA, CEDA, The Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg/State Ministry for Economic and Labour Affairs, Department of River Engineering) nor the Congress Secretariat will assume any responsibility for the above- mentioned losses or failures. The insurance is to be purchased in the participant's own country.

Weather and clothing
The weather in Hamburg in early autumn can be unpredictable. The mean temperature in September is between 16 and 22 degrees C but you may have to face colder days and there may be some rain, so come prepared.
Transportation upon arrival
The CCH and the contracted hotels (see in the Accommodation section of this brochure) are in the centre of Hamburg. The Hamburg Airport, Hamburg- Fuhlsbüttel (http://www.ham.airport.de), is located to the North of the city about 12 km from the city centre, with easy connections by airport buses, scheduled buses and taxis. Travel time from the airport to CCH and the hotels is approx. 20 minutes by taxi and 30 minutes by public transport. The taxi costs approx. € 25. There are taxi ranks in front of all the terminals. The Airport Express bus - Jasper (http://www.jasper-hamburg.de) runs between the Central Station (Hauptbahnhof) and the Airport every 15 minutes. A ticket for a single journey costs approx. € 5. These buses stop directly in front of Terminal 1 and Terminal 4. The travel time to the Central Station is 25 minutes. From the Central Station take the S-Bahn directly to Dammtor Station.
